Just found out Pakistan is actually growing the world's most expensive mango in Karachi? The Miyazaki mango, originally from Japan, is being cultivated in Malir and apparently it's absolutely wild. We're talking Rs 300,000 per kilogram locally, which is insane. Internationally it goes for like $800-900 per kg.
What makes it so expensive though - it's this striking purple mango with the most ridiculous sweetness and texture. Fiberless, super soft, melts in your mouth like cream. People call it the "Egg of Sunshine" because of how it looks. One farmer there started growing it six years ago after importing a sapling from Japan, and now he's got the only Miyazaki tree in the country.
Apparently most of these are being prepared for export, which makes sense at those prices. Honestly didn't even know this was a thing until now. The fact that it's thriving in Pakistan when it's originally a Japanese specialty is kind of interesting. Have you guys ever tried one of these purple mangos or is it just too expensive for anyone to actually eat?
