Elon Musk reaffirms open-source algorithms, publicly undermined by X community notes: no updates since the initial release
According to Beating Monitoring, Elon Musk posted on the X platform today, once again reiterating his commitment to open-sourcing the recommendation algorithm, stating that in order to convince the public that the platform is not secretly manipulating content, “all content affecting what people see must be open-sourced.”
However, community notes mercilessly exposed the current state of this promise’s implementation: X had once promised to update the open-source “X Algorithm” every four weeks, but there has been no follow-up since its initial release. Even more awkwardly, the notes cited a Hacker News discussion pointing out that the released open-source library still lacks key files, making it impossible for external users to run the code on their own.
