I just looked into who owns the most Bitcoins, and the result is quite interesting. Up top is, of course, Satoshi Nakamoto with an estimated 1.1 million BTC – these coins have never been moved since the early days of Bitcoin, which has puzzled the entire community for years.
But what surprised me: institutional players have long entered the market. BlackRock holds over 300,000 BTC, demonstrating how seriously traditional financial giants take Bitcoin. Fidelity with over 181,000 BTC and Grayscale with about 264,000 BTC have also become massive players. This is actually a big step toward mainstream acceptance of cryptocurrencies.
Then there are the major exchanges and companies: various large trading platforms hold hundreds of thousands of BTC for their users, and MicroStrategy under Michael Saylor has pursued an aggressive accumulation strategy with over 226,000 BTC – the company is really betting on Bitcoin as a strategic reserve asset.
It’s also interesting that both the U.S. government and the Chinese government hold significant holdings – mainly from seizures. This shows how present Bitcoin has become even at the political level. The question of who really owns the most Bitcoins is no longer just a matter for crypto nerds but also concerns traditional finance and governments worldwide.
