Iran Demands Sovereignty Over Strait of Hormuz in Response to U.S. War Proposal

Iran, through state media, demanded sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz as a response to a U.S. proposal to end the war. The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea gives coastal states sovereign rights over marine resources in exclusive economic zones, while preserving innocent passage for foreign ships under defined conditions.
