I just took a look at who actually holds the most Bitcoins—and the distribution is really interesting. The pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, is still at the top with an estimated 1.1 million BTC. His original addresses have never been moved since the early days, which naturally sparks endless speculation.

But what surprised me more was how strong institutional players have become by now. BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, holds over 300,000 BTC—which shows just how much Bitcoin has entered the traditional financial sector. Fidelity, MicroStrategy under Michael Saylor, Grayscale with their large Bitcoin fund—together, they control a huge amount of wealth.

Then there are the exchanges. One of the largest crypto exchanges holds over 550,000 BTC, and a leading American platform has nearly 300,000 BTC. These are assets belonging to millions of users that are held there.

Often overlooked: governments. The USA has over 213,000 BTC from seizures, and China has about 190,000 BTC. Even Block.one with its 164,000 BTC is playing in this league.

When you look at all of this, it becomes clear: the question of who has the most Bitcoins is really a question of concentration. Satoshi may be ahead on the technical side, but the institutional accumulation of the past few years is actually the more fascinating phenomenon.
