Polish right-wing political party urgently proposes a "total ban on cryptocurrencies" bill, sparking heated debate in parliament over crypto regulation legislation
Breaking News from Mars Finance, on May 12th, as the Polish Parliament is reviewing four cryptocurrency regulation bills, the right-wing party Law and Justice (PiS) suddenly submitted a new bill proposing a comprehensive ban on cryptocurrency-related activities in Poland, sparking attention from the local political and market circles.
According to reports, Polish Parliament Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty confirmed that the parliament is currently simultaneously reviewing four crypto bills from the government, President Karol Nawrocki, the “Poland 2050” party, and the “Confederation” party.
Among them, the main disputes focus on the account freezing authority of the Polish financial regulatory agency and the severity of penalties for violations. The presidential version of the bill maintains a maximum fine of 20 million zloty (about 5.5 million USD), while the Ministry of Finance version proposes increasing it to 25 million zloty (about 6.9 million USD).
Meanwhile, several PiS lawmakers have withdrawn their support for the market regulation bill submitted in April and instead submitted an independent proposal to “ban cryptocurrency activities.”
Speaker Czarzasty stated that the ban proposal will enter the process after the review of the four main regulatory bills is completed, provided PiS does not voluntarily withdraw it.
He also described the current crypto industry situation as a “devil’s dance” and publicly questioned the reasons behind some politicians’ relationships with local crypto platform financing, as well as the two previous vetoes of crypto bills by the president.
