I was wondering what the poorest countries in the world are based on GDP per capita. I found a list, and it's quite depressing reading. African countries dominate, mainly South Sudan, Burundi, and the Central African Republic at the top. DR Congo, Niger, Mozambique, and Malawi are also among the worst. From the rest of the world, Yemen and Madagascar appear on the list. Looking at it, there are more of the poorest countries in the world than one might expect, and the situation is worsening year by year. I was surprised at how much GDP per capita differs from developed countries. Do you have any sense of why things are so bad specifically in these states?
