I had to stop and read this again. The ranking of the 10 richest people in the world at the beginning of this year is a completely new world compared to what we saw just a few years ago. Technology has dominated this list like never before, and the numbers are simply crazy.
Elon Musk is at the top with a fortune of $726 billion. This is historic. Never in modern times has one person accumulated such wealth. The growth of his fortune is the result of several factors — SpaceX is growing wildly, Starlink is changing the way we think about the internet, Tesla continues to dominate the market, and his influence in artificial intelligence and neurotech is becoming increasingly significant.
Behind him is Larry Page with about $270 billion, benefiting from Google's dominance in AI. In third place is Jeff Bezos with $255 billion, supported by the continuous growth of AWS and Amazon logistics. This shows how big the gap has become between these individuals and the rest of the business world.
The entire list of the 10 richest people in the world now almost looks like a ranking of tech companies. Sergey Brin in fourth with $251 billion, Larry Ellison with $248 billion, Mark Zuckerberg with $233 billion, Bernard Arnault with $205 billion, Steve Ballmer with $170 billion, Jensen Huang with $156 billion, and Warren Buffett closing the top 10 with $151 billion. Each of them has a direct connection to technology or its transformation.
What drives this boom? Primarily artificial intelligence and cloud computing — this is no longer the future, it’s the present. The space sector and semiconductors are growing explosively. American tech companies maintain their global dominance. And finally, all these billionaires are founders who kept their stakes — long-term bets pay off.
Looking at this list of the 10 richest people in the world, I see that the character of global wealth has completely changed. It’s no longer the era of bankers or industrialists from the 20th century. It’s the era of innovators who bet on the future and won big. It will be interesting to see how this dynamic develops in the coming months.
