I recently came across an interesting ranking of currencies and passports from different countries. It turns out that the most expensive currency in the world is the Kuwaiti Dinar, followed by the Bahraini and Omani Riyals. Generally, the top 15 strongest currencies are mostly from small wealthy countries and financial centers: the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the Euro, and the US dollar. Interestingly, in one currency ranking, the distribution is quite different from the passport ranking. The most powerful passports in terms of visa-free access are from Singapore, South Korea, and Japan in the top positions. Then come Europeans (Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland) and some other developed countries like Australia, Canada, and the UAE. It turns out that a wealthy currency does not guarantee a strong passport, and vice versa. For example, Switzerland appears in both top lists, while the US, with its strong dollar, ranks lower in the passport ranking than you might expect.
