Do you know the story of Erik Finman? He is one of those cases that makes you rethink everything you know about opportunity and timing in the crypto world. This guy was already more aware of his future at age 12 than many adults.
It all started quite casually — during a walk with his brother, he saw a guy wearing a T-shirt with the Bitcoin logo. He asked for information, listened, and from that moment something clicked. He realized that Bitcoin was not just a passing trend but something destined to grow. At that point, he decided that traditional school was not his path.
The interesting thing is that Erik Finman’s parents didn’t stop him. Instead, they set him a challenge: if he became a millionaire before turning 18, he wouldn’t have to go to college. An interesting bet, right?
When he received $1,000 from his grandmother, Erik made his move. He bought about 100 Bitcoins at around $10 each. For three years, he focused solely on trading and studying, waiting for the right moment. At the end of 2013, when the price reached $1,200 per Bitcoin, he sold. He left school and started building something of his own.
In 2014, he founded Botangle, an online education platform. The irony? It was a direct response to a teacher who told him to drop out and find a job at McDonald's. Erik literally wrote a letter to that teacher to show him that he had achieved something big.
What strikes about Erik Finman is his ability to make contrarian choices. When he sold Botangle, he received an offer of $100,000 or 300 Bitcoin. At that time, Bitcoin had dropped to about $200. Many would have taken the money. He chose Bitcoin. And he was right.
Before his 18th birthday, he won the bet. Bitcoin’s price had surpassed $2,700, and he had accumulated a fortune. According to data from that period, he entered the top 5 of cryptocurrency millionaires in the world. At 20, he owned Bitcoin worth over $5 million.
Now, what Erik Finman says is interesting: he believes that if you don’t become a millionaire in the next 10 years, it’s your fault. It’s not arrogance; it’s a consideration based on a decade of experience in the industry. He firmly believes cryptocurrencies are the money of the future, that they will continue to exist and evolve.
He is currently focused on Freedom Phone, a smartphone that promotes privacy and free speech. It’s the kind of project that makes sense for someone like Erik Finman, who has always looked beyond what most people could imagine.
The lesson? Maybe it’s not just about Bitcoin specifically, but about how to recognize trends before everyone else does, and have the courage to act when others hesitate. Erik Finman is proof that sometimes the most controversial decisions are the ones that change everything.
