Recently, while doing some account verification tests, I discovered that the SMS receiving platform is really a time-saver. Instead of buying new SIM cards, using virtual numbers to receive verification codes is faster. The principle of these platforms is actually simple: they rent a bunch of virtual phone numbers for you, and the verification codes are displayed directly in the backend, protecting privacy and making testing more convenient.

I've encountered many pitfalls before—some SMS platforms simply don't receive messages, and some have delays of half a day. Later, I sorted out a few decent ones that I personally tested and confirmed to work. SMS-Activate is the fastest platform; in most cases, you can receive the verification code within ten seconds. It covers a wide range of countries, making it especially suitable for cross-border application testing. 5SIM has a user-friendly interface, clear API documentation, and works well for registering Google, Twitter, and other accounts. Its stability is quite good.

If you're mainly testing applications within China, both Xiaoniao SMS and Super Cloud SMS perform reasonably well. Xiaoniao SMS typically delivers verification codes within 5 to 15 seconds for common applications, and it's even faster during daytime working hours. Super Cloud SMS usually takes 10 to 30 seconds for US numbers, and Chinese numbers are even faster, though sometimes slower during peak hours. There's also Getsmscode, which is cheap but mainly suitable for Chinese applications; it may have delays on less popular platforms.

However, there are a few points to note when using SMS platforms. Some numbers are shared, which can easily be flagged as risky numbers. Verification codes may sometimes be delayed, especially for less common countries or applications. My advice is to choose reputable platforms and avoid blindly going for the cheapest options. If you're just testing APIs, any platform that supports API access will do. But if you need stable registration for a specific overseas website, it's best to recharge multiple numbers as backups so you can switch immediately if one becomes invalid. Many platforms support one-click number switching, which is very practical and helps avoid waste.

Additionally, although SMS platforms are very convenient, never use them as your main long-term numbers. Privacy and security cannot be guaranteed, and some websites will directly flag virtual numbers as risky. Lastly, remember that these tools are meant for privacy protection, account verification, and testing purposes only—do not use them for other illegal activities. Based on my experience, SMS-Activate and 5SIM perform the best overall, with low latency and broad coverage, and are worth trying.
