Just caught something that's not getting nearly enough attention in mainstream coverage. According to Washington Post reporting, Russia has been actively providing Iran with real-time intelligence on US military positions in the Middle East since late February. We're talking about multiple daily feeds of satellite data tracking US aircraft carriers, warships, radar installations, and military aircraft locations flowing directly to Tehran.
Let me walk through what could happen next if this escalates. First, Iran uses that Russian intelligence to successfully target a US naval asset. Then the US retaliates and publicly calls out Russia's role. But here's where it gets tricky—Russia denies direct involvement while quietly continuing to feed intelligence to Iran. At that point, the US moves to completely cut Russia off from SWIFT. Russia then stops hiding and openly declares support for Iran. Then China enters the picture and sides with both of them.
The scenario gets darker from there. A Russian or Iranian missile hits a NATO member country, triggering Article 5. Once that happens, the nuclear deterrence framework that's held for decades starts to crack. What used to be clearly defined as a proxy conflict starts looking like something much bigger.
The distance between proxy warfare and global conflict is shrinking by the day. This Russia-Iran-US triangle is worth watching closely because the escalation pathways are becoming increasingly narrow. One miscalculation and everything changes. Worth paying attention to how this unfolds over the next few weeks.
