Abstract generation in progress

Golden Finance reports that on May 12, Google security researchers said a cybercriminal group used artificial intelligence to develop a hacking tool that can bypass defenses in a software program widely used to manage computer systems. This plot was foiled after Google issued an alert to the tool’s developer. This is the first time Google’s Threat Intelligence team has found hackers using AI-generated “zero-day” vulnerabilities in this way. So-called zero-day vulnerabilities are flaws that developers have not yet been aware of, leaving defenders with no time to patch before the vulnerability is exploited. The company declined to disclose the cybercriminal group involved, the affected software, or the name of the large language model used in this attempted attack. However, researchers believe that this vulnerability was not generated using Anthropic PBC’s Mythos or Google’s own Gemini model. As for when this vulnerability was discovered, Google also did not provide any further details besides describing it as recent. (Dongxin News)
