U.S. officials: Trump convenes top leaders to assess reinitiating military action against Iran

Golden Finance reports that on May 12, according to Axios, three U.S. officials stated that after negotiations with Iran stalled on Sunday, Trump met with the national security team on Monday to discuss the next steps in the Iran conflict, which could include resuming military action. U.S. officials said Trump hopes to reach an agreement to end the war, but Iran rejected many of his demands and refused to make meaningful concessions on its nuclear program, which has brought military options back onto the agenda. Trump has recently publicly threatened that if diplomatic efforts fail, he will bomb Iran’s infrastructure. Officials said one option is to strike 25% of targets that have been identified but not yet hit. U.S. officials said Vice President Vance, U.S. Special Envoy Witkoff, Secretary of State Rubio, Defense Secretary Hegseth, Joint Chiefs Chairman General Dan Cain, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and other senior officials are expected to attend a meeting on Iran.
