I just saw that Strategy (MSTR) is once again making big moves to buy Bitcoin, this time investing $255 million to add 3,273 coins during April, with an average cost of about $77.9k per coin. Now, their Bitcoin holdings have surged to over 810k coins, with an unrealized gain of nearly $1.9 billion, accounting for 3.9% of the total global Bitcoin supply. This scale is truly astonishing.
Interestingly, their fundraising strategy is quite unique. The money used to buy these coins mainly came from selling their own stock, MSTR. Last week, they sold 1.45 million shares for $255 million. But more importantly, they launched a "42/42" plan, aiming to raise $84 billion by 2027 through various methods to continuously buy Bitcoin. One of their preferred stocks called STRC has recently become very popular, offering an annual yield of up to 11.5%, attracting many institutional investors.
Strategy even plans to change the dividend payout for STRC from monthly to twice a month to further improve liquidity. This approach seems to be continuously optimizing their Bitcoin purchase financing mechanism, ensuring a steady flow of funds. Since 2020, they have invested a total of $61.8 billion, with an average cost of $75.5k per coin. The current scale and frequency of their Bitcoin purchases are truly rare in the industry.
