Just watched a Netflix documentary discussing John McAfee’s story, and the craziest part is that his ex-girlfriend actually said he didn’t die. She claimed that after McAfee passed away, she received a phone call where the caller said, “It’s me—I paid to fake my death. I’m still alive,” and then he hid out in Texas?
Director Charlie Russell also seemed helpless during the interview, saying he had no idea whether the ex-girlfriend was serious or just joking. However, McAfee’s widow Janice stepped forward to set the record straight, saying that he did die, and that if he were still alive, he wouldn’t be hiding in Texas. The documentary is called *The Father of Antivirus: Michael, Demons, Fleeing, and a Crazy Life*, and it includes a large amount of unreleased material from his time on the run.
Looking back, John McAfee was arrested by Spanish police in 2020 for tax evasion, and he died in prison the following year. No matter what the truth is, this story is certainly bizarre. What do you think—could someone really completely disappear in modern society?
