Solana Opens Alpenglow Consensus Upgrade to Community Validator Testing

Anza said Solana’s Alpenglow consensus upgrade is now live on a community test cluster, after internal testing cut time to finality by roughly 100 times. The move lets external validator operators test the mechanism for the first time. Solana validators approved SIMD-0236 with 98% support in September 2024, and Anza said mainnet could arrive as early as late Q3 or early Q4 2026 if later tests hold up.
