It seems that the Hong Kong police have uncovered a major case.

It involves a scam group targeting Chinese mainland students studying abroad,
disguising themselves as law enforcement officers to make contact.
The victims were called to Hong Kong, where they were made to buy gold bars as "deposits,"
which were then melted down and converted into cash or cryptocurrencies.
This indicates a highly organized method.
Including Hong Kong students studying abroad, there have been a total of 7 reported cases of damage,
with total losses exceeding 7 million Hong Kong dollars, which is quite significant.
The police have taken serious action, arresting several suspects and confiscating illegal assets worth about 5 million Hong Kong dollars.
One person has already been formally charged and is scheduled to appear in court,
and other arrestees have been ordered to surrender to the police in early May.
Such scams targeting students studying abroad are probably quite common.
