AI | UK Financial Regulator Anticipates Latest AI Models Will Cause Impact
The head of the UK’s regulatory department predicts that the latest AI models, such as Mythos from Anthropic and ChatGPT 5.5 Instant, will have a significant impact on the financial services industry.
Sam Woods, CEO of the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), stated at a summit that these models’ ability to identify vulnerabilities is increasing, requiring banks to fix issues at an extremely fast pace, and rapid remediation is a major cause of systemic failures. Institutions need to strengthen their basic network defenses and accelerate response times, as AI-driven defense measures will become even more important.
Anthropic launched its latest AI model Mythos to a select few companies in April this year. Cybersecurity experts believe that Mythos poses a challenge to the banking sector and traditional technological systems, although a cybersecurity task force led by the Bank of England last month concluded that the industry is prepared to face these challenges.
