Suspect in the U.S. White House Correspondents’ Dinner Shooting Incident, Cole Tomas Allen, appeared in federal district court in Washington, D.C., on Monday, and pleaded not guilty to all charges, including attempting to assassinate President Trump.

The 31-year-old Allen did not speak during the brief hearing, with his lawyer representing him. He is charged with attempted assassination of the president, assaulting federal officials, and illegal possession of firearms. According to U.S. media reports, if convicted, Allen could face life imprisonment solely for the charge of attempting to assassinate the president.

Additionally, Allen’s lawyer requested the disqualification of the participation of Attorney General Todd Blanche and federal prosecutor Jeanine Pirro from the District of Columbia in prosecuting Allen, because these individuals attended the Correspondents’ Dinner and may be victims or witnesses in the case, creating a potential conflict of interest. The lawyer stated that the defense might seek to disqualify Pirro’s office from participating in the case. Judge Trevor McFadden did not make a ruling on this request.

Allen is scheduled to appear again in court on June 29.

On April 25, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was held in the basement banquet hall of the Hilton Hotel in Washington. President Trump, the Vice President Vance, and other officials attended. Surveillance footage shows Allen rushing through hotel security checkpoints with a gun, security personnel drew their weapons and pursued him, and a shootout ensued. Allen was subdued outside the banquet hall corridor, and police confiscated a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives.
