I just saw a pretty outrageous court ruling. SBF's mother, Barbara Fried, wanted to submit documents to the court on behalf of her son, but was directly rejected by the judge. Judge Lewis Kaplan made it very clear that whether Barbara Fried is the defendant's mother or a former Stanford Law School professor, she has no authority to submit documents in this case.
The reason is that SBF said in prison that he cannot use word processing software or access files, so his mother wanted to help request an extension. But the judge had already extended the deadline to March 23 himself, and was very firm—rejecting any letters or phone messages from Barbara Fried. Only SBF himself or his lawyer can communicate.
SBF was sentenced to 25 years due to the FTX collapse and is still serving time. Last month, he filed a motion claiming new evidence to request a retrial. This series of actions seems a bit desperate—even his mother can't get involved.
