I noticed an interesting background about Aya Miyaguchi, a recently discussed figure in the Ethereum community.
Starting her career as a high school teacher, she has a unique career path. In 2011, she encountered Bitcoin and was captivated by its social potential. Afterwards, she transitioned into the crypto industry and contributed to establishing Japan’s regulatory framework. In 2018, she was invited by Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin to become the Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation.
What’s noteworthy is Aya Miyaguchi’s vision called “The Infinite Garden.” She views Ethereum not as a finite game, but as an infinite game that emphasizes diversity and sustainability. Her approach focuses not only on technological development but also on governance and social transformation.
Earlier this year, Miyaguchi became the focal point of community discussions. There were divided opinions regarding the Foundation’s management policies, with some calling for leadership changes. However, she is highly regarded by Daniel Ryan and Vitalik. Ryan praised her “grand strategic vision and pure初心.”
In an unofficial on-chain community vote, Daniel Ryan was elected as the next leader with 99.98% support. However, this sparked further debate about the decentralization of Ethereum.
Aya Miyaguchi’s strength lies in her over ten years of experience in education and the crypto industry. She defines her role at the Foundation as “more of a coordinator than a manager,” promoting cooperation among multiple stakeholders. While there are criticisms regarding transparency, her advocacy for decentralization influences the entire Ethereum community.
Personally, I find her unwavering passion as an educator and her belief in the social transformative potential of blockchain intriguing. It’s not just about technological evolution but a long-term vision for fundamental societal change. This may be one of the reasons Ethereum has thrived for so many years.
