I just found out that Ledger experienced a serious security issue. It turns out that customer data was leaked through the Global-e payment processor. It's not that Ledger was hacked directly, but that their payment system through which many users buy their wallets was compromised.
What worries me is that these incidents affect trust in hardware wallets. Ledger is one of the most well-known brands for securely storing cryptocurrencies, but when the payment processing fails, personal data is exposed. I don't know exactly how much information was leaked, but it's the kind of breach that causes panic.
From Ledger's side, I assume they will investigate how this happened with Global-e. The strange thing is that if you use a Ledger wallet, you do so precisely to protect your privacy, and then your data leaks during the purchase. Has anyone else already changed their passwords after this?
