Interesting development in Canada. Regulators there are seriously concerned about the growing wave of fraud related to crypto ATMs and are considering a complete ban on their installation. On the white background of the legal cryptocurrency market, this seems quite radical, but I understand the logic — too many dubious transactions go through these machines.

The point is that crypto ATMs often become tools for scammers. People who fall for scams transfer money through these devices, and then it becomes difficult to trace the transactions. Canadian authorities see this as a serious safety issue for citizens.

If the ban is indeed implemented, it could set a precedent. Other countries will likely look into this approach. On one hand, it’s consumer protection; on the other, another step toward stricter regulation of the crypto sector as a whole.

Personal opinion: this isn’t about cryptocurrencies themselves, but about fighting crime. The white background of the cryptocurrency market requires clear rules of the game, and banning the most vulnerable channels could be a justified step. The only question is how effectively this will work in practice.
