Joint procurement and shared production lines Stellantis and Leap Motor plan to expand cooperation

【Caixin.com】 Stellantis Group took an equity stake in China-based automaker Leapmotor (09863.HK) in 2023, and the two sides also set up a joint venture called Leapmotor International. On May 8, 2026, Stellantis Group disclosed that the two parties plan to extend their cooperation to areas such as joint procurement, shared production lines, and revitalizing production capacity. Leapmotor has not yet made a statement in response.

Stellantis Group is a leading automaker. In 2025, it sold 5.484 million vehicles, ranking fifth on the global sales list. The group was formed through the merger of European automaker PSA (Peugeot Citroën Group) and U.S. automaker FCA (Fiat Chrysler), and its headquarters is currently located in Europe.

Leapmotor is a homegrown “new force” automaker in China, with its products focused on value for money. In 2025, Leapmotor delivered 596,000 vehicles, surpassing XPeng Motors and Li Auto, and ranked first among new force automakers.
