Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what Yat Siu from Animoca keeps repeating: the metaverse is not a physical place, it’s a completely different concept from what people imagine. While everyone was expecting virtual worlds with avatars and digital assets, the real paradigm shift is coming from another direction.

According to Siu, the future is not in 3D virtual landscapes, but in AI agents. We’re talking about around 100 billion intelligent agents that will be able to operate, interact, and create value in decentralized ecosystems. It’s a perspective that completely changes the way we think about the metaverse and blockchain.

I think he’s right when he says that the metaverse is an infrastructure, not a destination. It’s not a place you go, it’s a system where autonomous things operate and collaborate. AI agents could be the true engine of this evolution, much more than VR headsets or immersive online worlds that everyone focused on a few years ago.

This shift in narrative is interesting because it moves the focus from graphics and user experience to real utility and automation. If the metaverse becomes a network of intelligent agents working 24/7 on behalf of users, then yes, it would truly change the game.

Animoca Brands is betting on this vision, and frankly, it seems to me one of the few companies truly looking ahead instead of chasing the current trend. The future metaverse could be invisible, silent, and incredibly more powerful than we imagined.
