I just read something interesting about where the future of the metaverse and the crypto industry in general is heading. Yat Siu from Animoca has a perspective quite different from what many would expect.
Most people think of the metaverse as a place, right? That virtual world where we all connect. But according to Siu, that is a very limited way to see it. The true future is not about building elaborate virtual spaces, but something much more fundamental: AI agents.
We’re talking about approximately 100 billion AI agents operating within the crypto ecosystem. That would completely change how we think about automation, transactions, and coordination in decentralized networks. It’s not just technology for technology’s sake; it’s a transformation of how systems operate.
What I find relevant is that while many in the crypto industry remain focused on metaverse narratives and immersive experiences, thinkers like Siu see the next big change heading in a completely different direction. Autonomous agents could be much more impactful for the ecosystem than any virtual world.
This is one of those perspectives that we will probably see validated or refuted in the coming years. In any case, it’s worth following those who are thinking differently about where crypto technology is really headed and what true innovation in this space really means.
