Last night I almost got caught up again in the "social mining + points identity" trend, with a bunch of people in the group showing off badges and levels, basically just making you treat time as fuel. I clicked in and saw that the tasks involved switching chains back and forth, checking in, posting and interacting, and going through multiple routes... My first reaction wasn't "how many points can I earn," but rather to look at the depth and slippage: those pools are incredibly thin, and putting in a single transaction costs more than the points are worth, making me feel like I'm just donating liquidity. Recently, the L2s have been arguing over TPS/fees/subsidies, but no matter how many subsidies there are, rerouting and slippage can break the experience entirely. Anyway, I thought: if I don't understand it, I won't touch it; just close the page and go to sleep. Missed opportunities are fine—at least I didn't get drained of a whole day by badges.
