Techub News reports that, according to CryptoBriefing, SoftBank Group plans to convert the previously Sharp LCD factory, valued at approximately 100 billion yen (676M USD), into a battery manufacturing base to support its AI data center expansion. The facility is expected to begin trial production in fiscal year 2027 and achieve several GWh of mass production capacity in fiscal year 2028. The factory is located in Sakai City, Osaka, covering an area of 440k square meters, and will be integrated with SoftBank's existing solar power capacity of over 3 gigawatts after renovation. The company also plans to offer battery-related services to other Japanese enterprises, and this acquisition is seen as a key move to support its participation in AI infrastructure projects like Stargate.
