A very practical perspective! Daniela Amodei, co-founder and President of Anthropic, a humanities graduate majoring in English Literature, spoke about the core human values that are irreplaceable in the AI era during her speech at Stanford Graduate School of Business, focusing on the wave of AI development.
In her view, the work focus of developers in the AI era will shift toward communication and collaboration, with pure coding work gradually being replaced by AI.
When discussing AI's impact on the workplace, Daniela stated that AI is more of a supplement to work rather than a complete replacement.
Currently, large-scale job replacement has not occurred; only a small number of customer service jobs are affected.
Deeper down, AI may break the binding relationship between work, meaning, and social life, and society needs to adapt to this change in advance.
At the same time, she also warns that the convenience of AI is causing humans to gradually abandon proactive thinking, blurring the lines between "learning" and "cheating." To address this, Anthropic has developed a Socratic-style learning model aimed at activating users' thinking abilities.
When AI fully surpasses humans in intellectual work, Daniela believes that the uniquely human "bedside attitude," that is, empathy, care, and the ability to perceive others' emotions, cannot be replaced.
The value brought by this emotional connection will be greatly enhanced in the AI era, just as AI diagnostic capabilities, no matter how advanced, cannot provide patients with humanistic care.
Finally, in the face of uncertainties in the AI industry, she encourages entrepreneurs to stay true to what they genuinely love, while also adhering to the idea of being good people and doing good deeds. Kindness and business success are not opposed; they have a positive correlation.
