"The Thirteen Chapters of Tidal Trading"
The key to the door is yours | A decade-long keeper of positions
【The Dao and Law Chapter One】
The way of trading follows nature. Tides rise and fall, day and night never cease; fluctuations in prices are market principles. Skilled fighters do not oppose the trend; like a boat with the tide, those who go with it prosper. Those who win before battle with careful calculations have many advantages; those who see the market clearly without fighting have long observed the tides. Military formations resemble water, avoiding high ground and seeking lower; capital is like water, avoiding solidity and attacking emptiness.
【Observing the Situation Chapter Two】
To observe the overall trend, one must examine the fundamentals. The moon influences tides; politics and economy influence the market. The moon has new and full phases; the market has bullish and bearish turns. Observe five matters: first, macroeconomics; second, cycles; third, sentiment; fourth, volume capacity; fifth, unusual movements. Consider seven factors: Is the trend strong or weak? Is it following the trend or countercurrent? Does the trend have momentum or lack volume? Did the trend gain the upper hand early or miss the right timing? Is discipline strict? Does the action align with knowledge and practice?
【Tide Timing Chapter Three】
Tides have three signs: flat tide, rising tide, falling tide. The market has three states: consolidation, main rise, main fall. Do not fight during flat tide; ride the boat during rising tide; observe reefs during falling tide. Good observers wait for extremes: fear as if the tide is retreating to the bottom, greed as if the rising tide is touching the shore. Soldiers prefer quick action but lack skill in patience; prolonged battles dull the funds and cause setbacks.
【Terrain Chapter Four】
The land has dangerous and easy areas; the market has sectors. Reefs and rocks are prone to damage ships; intense oscillations are easy to damage positions. Therefore, avoid foggy financial reports and unclear policies. Dangerous areas should not be lingered in; Soros once lost in Hong Kong because he did not understand the differences in tides among countries.
【Void and Reality Chapter Five】
Void and reality generate each other; a full tide appears weak, a retreating tide appears strong. The bullish shows weakness but hides strength; retail traders see the positive and chase the rise. Skilled fighters make others come to them but do not be controlled by others; false breakouts lure many, true breakouts accumulate momentum. If you shape the form but I have no form, I am focused while the enemy is divided.
【Form Chapter Six】
Buffett once maintained value like a rock; Simmons captures micro-waves like a seagull. Those who guard well hide beneath nine lands (value investing); those who attack well operate above nine skies (quantitative trading). Winners seek victory first and then fight; losers fight first and then seek victory. The power of tides lies in consistency, not in violence; the path of compound interest lies in longevity, not in speed.
【Trend Chapter Seven】
The rapidity of turbulent water can move boulders—that is trend. Once a trend is established, even a slight amount can extend for thousands of miles; fighting against the trend fiercely, even with heavy capital, will be destroyed. Therefore, skilled fighters seek the trend and do not blame others. Creating a trend is like raising a tide: initial movement is slow, then rapid, and finally unstoppable. Stop-loss is like building a dam; better a small breach than a complete collapse.
【Strategic Attack Chapter Eight】
Maximize profit, minimize loss. Winning every battle is not necessarily the best; holding cash without fighting is the best. The highest strategy is to attack with planning (macro layout); next is to attack through alliances (information analysis); the lowest is to attack cities (chasing gains and cutting losses). Know yourself and know your opponent: understand your position’s pressure, understand the institutions’ intentions, and you will not be defeated in a hundred battles.
【Rhythm Chapter Nine】
Tides have signals, the moon is the guide; the market has rules, the heart is the reins. Three beats exhaust: first beat breaks through, second beat accelerates, third beat exhausts. Those who exit early see the faint light and withdraw, like fishermen returning before the tide recedes. Managing the crowd is like managing a small group; dividing positions is also key; fighting the crowd is like fighting the few; following the trend is also essential.
【Nine Variations Chapter Ten】
Tide paths are unpredictable; they surge at straits, slow in bays. There are routes to avoid (do not touch speculative stocks), armies to avoid attacking (sideways markets), cities to avoid attacking (bubbles). Wise considerations must include gains and losses: think of retreat during rises, consider rebounds during falls. Prepare thoroughly to avoid complacency; see common patterns to avoid doubt; hidden within yang is yin, not opposite to yang.
【Risk Control Chapter Eleven】
Jesse Livermore rose and fell three times, unaware that tides eventually swallow ships. Skilled fighters stand invincible, avoiding defeat by enemies. Defeated soldiers fight first and seek victory later; victorious soldiers win first and then fight. Five key points in capital management: first, diversify positions (avoid all-in); second, stop-loss (avoid overextension); third, take profits (avoid stubbornness); fourth, keep light positions (avoid emotional pressure); fifth, hold cash (avoid reckless moves).
【Information Chapter Twelve】
A lunar halo signals wind; a moist foundation signals rain. When K-line patterns are unchanged, information leads first. True information is like deep-sea currents; false information is like surface foam. Those who listen to news die; those who analyze data survive. Market noise: good news exhausted turns bad, bad news exhausted turns good, cycling like tides pushing each other.
【Mental Method Chapter Thirteen】
Tides do not compete for a day or a night; trading does not compete for a city or a pond. Calm as reefs awaiting the tide; active as dolphins chasing waves. The five victories of cautious traders: first, do not be impulsive (reject frequent trading); second, do not be confused (abandon perfect points); third, do not fear (dare to add on trend); fourth, do not greed (know when to take profits); fifth, do not regret (accept inevitable losses). The ultimate state: no positions in hand, but a sense of trend in mind; no charts before the eyes, but tides in the chest.
(End of the entire chapter)
The essence of tidal trading: observe the way of heaven and earth’s cycles, follow the law of yin and yang in rises and falls. Use the invisible eye to observe the trend, and the lawful hand to wield the blade. Know when to advance or retreat, live or perish, without losing your integrity—this is the unity of the “Dao” and “Art” of trading.
