Regarding the reasons for deactivation, Meta officially stated that it was because a very small number of users actively enabled the feature, leading to low usage rates, and thus decided to deactivate it.

But many believe that requiring manual activation inevitably results in low adoption, making this explanation somewhat far-fetched.
Secondly, it is for regulatory and child protection considerations.
End-to-end encryption can easily become a shield for illegal activities, and removing encryption makes it easier for platforms to review extreme content and prevent harm to children, thus gaining support from advocacy groups.
However, some also suspect that Meta is compromising under government pressure.
Finally, commercial interests and AI training are deep-seated motivations.
The platform needs to analyze users' posts and private messages to precisely target ads for profit.
At the same time, communication data is extremely valuable for training AI, and experts believe that this massive commercial benefit is the core reason Meta is canceling encryption.
