Chinese Ambassador to the UK Zheng Zeguang met with UK Foreign Office officials on May 8, and further lodged solemn representations regarding the UK court’s rulings against two Chinese citizens in the UK, including employees of the Hong Kong trade office, firmly rejecting the unfounded accusations from the UK side, urging the UK to correct its errors, stop political manipulation against China, cease arbitrary arrests and prosecutions of Chinese citizens in the UK, and stop supporting and encouraging anti-China and chaos Hong Kong elements. China also sternly warns that any actions damaging China’s interests will be met with resolute countermeasures.

Zheng Zeguang pointed out that the UK’s arrest and prosecution of Chinese citizens in the UK on baseless charges, abusing legal procedures and manipulating judicial processes to convict them, is a typical political farce. The purpose is to support and endorse anti-China and chaos Hong Kong elements fleeing abroad in the UK, and to slander and smear the Chinese government and the Hong Kong SAR government. China firmly opposes this and strongly condemns it.

He emphasized that the Chinese government’s resolve to crack down on anti-China and chaos Hong Kong elements and to maintain Hong Kong’s stability and prosperity is unwavering. The UK’s protection of wanted illegal criminals and arbitrary arrests of Chinese citizens in the UK are a blasphemy against the rule of law, seriously violate the basic principles of international relations, and severely damage China-UK relations. China will not tolerate this.
