"Ring" author Koji Suzuki passes away at age 68

Japanese media reports that Koji Suzuki, the original author of the classic Japanese horror film “Ring,” passed away due to illness on the 8th of this month at a hospital in Tokyo, at the age of 68.

Koji Suzuki has written numerous classic horror novels, with the most famous being the “Ring” series, including “Ring” and “Spiral.”

The novel was adapted into the horror film “Ring” in 1998, directed by Hideo Nakata. The iconic scene where the character “Sadako” crawls out of the television screen became a classic moment. “Sadako” also became one of the most representative female protagonists in horror films, sparking a Japanese horror wave in the 1990s.

Koji Suzuki was born in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and graduated from Keio University with a degree in French Literature. He debuted in 1990 with “Paradise,” which won the Excellence Award at the 2nd Japan Fantasy Novel Awards.
