Global demand for green shipping is rapidly increasing. Hong Kong China Gas (00003) is accelerating the expansion of its green methanol production capacity, with its joint venture VENEX establishing a new production base in San Shui Datoang Town, Foshan, Guangdong.

The first phase of the new plant is expected to start operation in 2028, with an annual capacity of 200k tons; by then, combined with its existing base in Inner Mongolia, the gas company’s total annual green methanol capacity will reach 500k tons, providing a stable supply chain for Hong Kong’s development of an international green marine fuel fueling center.

The new Foshan plant is located in Foshan (San Shui) New Materials Industrial Park, covering about 311 acres. The project adopts advanced biomass gasification technology, using sugarcane bagasse and wood processing waste, common in South China, as the main raw materials, and converting them into green methanol through four major processes: “raw material pretreatment, biomass gasification, synthesis gas adjustment, and methanol synthesis.”

Cen Wenhui, President of Operations at China Gas Corporation—Green Fuels and Chemicals, stated that green methanol has become the first commercially produced green alternative fuel, and is迎來 the development opportunity as the global and Hong Kong actively promote the construction of green shipping centers. As an energy company, it hopes to explore its positioning and direction in low-carbon transformation, aligning practical business with the sustainable development of the entire industry.
