Chinese man in Thailand with vehicle and residence found with large cache of weapons, arrested
A 31-year-old Chinese man was arrested in Thailand, with police discovering a large amount of firearms at his vehicle and residence, including M16 rifles, hand grenades, landmines, and approximately 3.6 kilograms of C4 explosives.
Thai media reported that the man, Mingchen Sun (pseudonym), was involved in a car accident on the highway last Friday. During the investigation, police found a handgun and multiple magazines inside the vehicle. Further searches at his residence uncovered an M16 rifle, hand grenades, C4 bombs, and a vest containing explosives.
The Chonburi Provincial Police in Thailand stated that the Royal Thai Police Chief has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the case, especially regarding its impact on national security and public safety.
Police found that the suspect held passports from China and Cambodia, as well as non-Thai resident identification. He reportedly first visited Thailand in 2020 on a tourist visa and has entered and exited the country multiple times since. Authorities are investigating the source of the firearms and whether the suspect was planning an attack. They are also considering reducing the visa exemption period for Chinese tourists from 60 days to 30 days.
