Utility DTE Energy’s plan to pause Michigan rate increases hinges on Oracle data centre

DTE Energy announced its intention to forego asking for rate increases for at least two years, conditional on the successful operation of a US$16 billion data center campus in Saline Township, Michigan, built for Oracle. This data center, to be powered by DTE Energy and augmented by a battery energy storage system (BESS), is expected to contribute US$9 billion to DTE’s electric system improvements, reducing the financial burden on other customers. DTE also detailed a US$474.3 million request to support grid investments, including the conversion of a coal plant to natural gas and the development of the 220MW/880MWh Trenton Channel Energy Center BESS.
