On May 10, according to Fars News Agency, Iran is pushing to implement licensing, fees, and legal jurisdiction for foreign cable operators. These cables carry a significant amount of data traffic between Europe, the Gulf region, and Asia. Iran has also demanded that all management and maintenance work must be exclusively handled by domestic companies. Previously, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard had warned of potential attacks on related submarine cable infrastructure.
