Iran seeks to control the underwater internet cables in the Strait of Hormuz

Golden Finance reports that on May 10th, according to Fars News Agency, Iran is pushing for licensing, charging, and legal jurisdiction over foreign cable operators. These cables carry a large amount of data traffic between Europe, the Gulf region, and Asia. Iran also demands that all management and maintenance work must be exclusively handled by domestic companies. Previously, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran had warned that attacks could be launched against the relevant submarine cable infrastructure.
