Just looked into what Steve Young's actually doing these days and it's pretty wild how much he's accomplished since hanging up his cleats. Most people know him as the 49ers legend who threw six TDs in Super Bowl XXIX, but his current job and what he's built after football is honestly more impressive than people realize.

So he's not just some retired athlete living off nostalgia. Young co-founded this private equity firm called HGGC based in Palo Alto that manages billions in assets. That's his main gig now — basically running a serious business operation in Silicon Valley. Before that he did the ESPN thing for years, breaking down Monday Night Football, but his real focus shifted to the business side.

What's interesting is he's stuck with the Bay Area the whole time. Still lives in the Palo Alto area, which makes sense given his current job keeps him rooted there. His company's headquartered there, he's got deep ties to the 49ers community, and honestly the area just fits his lifestyle. Married Barbara Graham back in 2000, they've got three kids, and he's still heavily involved with his Forever Young Foundation doing charity work.

The guy's basically the blueprint for athletes who actually transition successfully into something substantial. He didn't just become a talking head or fade away — he went full business mode and made it work. When you look at where he lives now and what his current job entails, it all connects. He's running a legit middle-market PE firm, staying involved in philanthropy, and maintaining those Bay Area roots that go back decades.

It's one of those things where you realize the Hall of Fame career was just the first act. His current job and business empire is arguably the more interesting chapter. Not many retired QBs can say they're managing billions in assets and still staying active in their community like that.
