Just realized a lot of people don't know how to change my bank details on SASSA, especially if you're getting the R350 grant or permanent grants. Been seeing questions about this constantly, so figured I'd share what I learned.

So here's the thing - if you're on permanent grants like old age or disability, you can't just do it online. You actually have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person and fill out a "Payment Method Change Form." They'll need your ID (original and copy) plus proof of your new bank account - either a bank statement from the last three months or a letter from the bank. Important: the account has to be in YOUR name only, no joint accounts or anything like that.

Once you submit it, they send everything to the bank for verification, which takes up to 21 working days. And here's a heads up - if you want the change to take effect next month, you need to submit before the 15th. Miss that and you're stuck with the old account for another cycle.

Now if you're on the SRD R350 grant, it's way easier because it's all online through the official SASSA SRD portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS, and you just update your bank details on that page. Same rule though - account must be in your name. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank to verify.

For your phone number, permanent grant holders should visit the office or call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11. For SRD, there's an online contact details page where you can update it, and they'll send you an OTP to verify. One thing though - watch out for fake websites trying to scam people into changing their grant details. Always use the official SASSA link, no exceptions.

Has anyone else had issues with this process taking longer than expected? The waiting period can be frustrating when you need the money.
