I just checked how much a soldier in the Mexican Army earns, and honestly, I was surprised. It turns out that the salaries are quite competitive, especially when compared to other professions in Mexico.

Basic ranks like a private earn around 18,840 pesos per month, but as you advance in hierarchy, the situation changes quite a bit. A corporal goes up to 19,548, and sergeants reach 20-21 thousand. But the interesting part is when you get to officers: a lieutenant is already earning about 25,977 pesos.

Now, if you really want to see high salaries, look at the higher ranks. A colonel earns more than 91,000 pesos per month, and brigadier and division generals far exceed that figure. The division general reaches 133,503 pesos a month, which means yes, they indeed surpass a million annually.

What many don't know is that a soldier's earnings are not just the base salary. There are benefits that add quite a bit: a 40-day Christmas bonus, a 20-day vacation bonus, a food allowance between 1,515 to 1,640 pesos, transportation allowance of 985 pesos, and a technical assignment that adds 40% more. That makes the total package much better than what you see on paper.

If someone is considering a military career, what a soldier earns in the early ranks is decent, but the growth potential is what really matters. It depends a lot on your dedication and promotions, but clearly, there are opportunities to reach significant figures.
