Just realized how many times I've wondered what 4 inches actually looks like. Like, you see it in product descriptions all the time but can't really picture it without measuring. So I looked it up and honestly it's way more useful than I thought.

Basically 4 inches is about 10.16 centimeters. Not huge, not tiny. It's roughly the width of your palm or a closed fist if you want a quick reference. I tested it and yeah, pretty accurate. A lot of everyday stuff is around this size without you even realizing it.

The easiest comparison I found is a credit card—that's about 3.4 inches, so 4 inches is just slightly longer. A TV remote section is pretty close too. And if you've got a ruler nearby, just count from 0 to 4 and that's literally it. Takes up about a third of a foot-long ruler.

Here's something random: a dollar bill is 6.14 inches long, so 4 inches is a bit over half of that. Handy when you don't have a ruler. I've used that comparison like three times already since I learned it.

The weird part is 4 inches sounds way bigger than it actually is. When you see it in real life, it feels smaller than expected. Numbers are abstract until you attach them to something physical, I guess. Now whenever I see '4 inches' in a product description, I just picture my palm or a remote and I know exactly what I'm getting.
