Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA details, especially if you need to change your number on the SRD grant. Learned this the hard way when my payment got delayed. So here's what actually works.

If you're on the SRD R370, the good news is you can do it online through their portal without going to an office. You'll need your SA ID number and application ID, then enter your new cellphone number. They send you an OTP to verify it's actually your number, and boom, done. Takes a few days to process but way easier than the old system. Just make sure you use the official SASSA website though – there are sketchy fake sites out there trying to scam people.

Now if you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), changing your number is different. You pretty much have to visit a SASSA office in person and fill out forms. Same with banking details if you need to switch accounts. They need to verify everything with your ID and bank statements, which can take up to 21 days. Pro tip: if you need the change for next month's payment, submit it before the 15th of the current month or you'll miss the deadline.

Honestly the online portal for SRD is way smoother than dealing with offices. But if you hit issues with the portal, just call their helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or email them. Sometimes the in-person route is faster if you're local anyway.
