Canada Targets 2027 Stablecoin Rules as Visa, Wealthsimple Pilot USDC Settlement

Canada’s detailed stablecoin regulations could arrive in mid or late 2027 while Visa Canada and Wealthsimple pilot USDC settlement for certain card-network obligations. Canada’s framework targets fiat-backed stablecoins issued by non-financial institutions and would require registration, one-to-one reserves, at-par redemption, governance controls, risk management, and no interest or yield to holders. Visa Canada and Wealthsimple said the pilot offers seven-day settlement availability. Reuters said an early-2027 launch plan was ambitious.
