Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA grant details, especially when you need to change your banking info or phone number. Been hearing complaints about missed payments because someone updated it wrong or didn't follow the right process.

So here's the thing: if you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), you can't just do it online. You actually have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person, fill out the payment method change form, and bring your ID plus proof of your new bank account (a bank statement not older than 3 months works). They send it to the bank for verification, which takes up to 21 working days. The tricky part is timing—if you want the new details to show up next month, you need to submit before the 15th of the current month. Miss that, and you're stuck with the old payment method for another cycle.

For the SRD R370 grant, it's a bit different because everything's online. You go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they text you a secure link. You click it and update your bank details through that portal. Again, the account has to be in your name only—no joint accounts or someone else's account.

Changing your phone number is just as important, honestly. For SRD, there's a dedicated contact portal where you enter your ID and application ID, then your new number. They'll send you an OTP to verify it. For permanent grants, you either call the SASSA helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit the office. Don't use random websites claiming to update your grant status—stick to the official SASSA channels only.

The whole process can take a few days to a couple weeks depending on the bank verification, so don't panic if it doesn't happen overnight. Just make sure you're using official portals and not some sketchy third-party site trying to steal your info.
