Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA details, especially with December payments coming up. Let me break down what actually works because the system can be confusing af.

If you get permanent grants (old age, disability, child grant), you literally cannot do this online no matter what. You have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office with your ID and bank statement (must be less than 3 months old). They'll give you a form to fill out, and then it takes up to 21 working days for the bank to verify. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month or you'll wait another cycle. Also, the account MUST be in your name only—no joint accounts, no third-party nonsense.

Now if you're on the SRD R350 grant, it's way easier because everything's online. You go to the SASSA SRD website, enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS, and you can change your banking details right there. Same rule applies though—account has to be in your name. If you need to change your number for status check updates and payment notifications, use their contact details portal, enter your ID and application ID, put in your new number, they'll send you an OTP to verify, and you're done.

If the online thing doesn't work (and honestly it sometimes doesn't), just call 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office in person. Way less stressful than dealing with fake websites trying to scam people. Seriously, only use the official SASSA portal—there's a lot of fraudulent sites out there claiming they can help you change your grant details.
