Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA details, especially when you need to change your cellphone number. So here's what I figured out.

If you're getting the R370 or R350 grant, the good news is you can do most of it online now. For the SRD grant specifically, you just go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they'll send you an SMS link. Click the link, update your banking info or phone number, and boom—done. Takes a few days to process though, so don't expect it to work immediately.

The tricky part is if you're on a permanent grant like disability or old age. You literally have to go to the SASSA office in person. No shortcuts. Bring your original ID, a bank statement (less than 3 months old), and be ready to fill out forms. They'll send it to the bank for verification, which takes up to 21 days. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to kick in next month, otherwise you're waiting another cycle.

For changing your R350 number or any contact details on SRD, use the contact portal on their website. You'll get an OTP sent to your new phone to confirm it's actually you. Sounds simple but honestly the portal can be glitchy sometimes. If it's not working, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local office.

One thing though—don't use random websites claiming they can update your details. Scams are everywhere. Stick to the official SASSA portal or go in person. Your money's too important to mess with.
