Just read about this wild crypto scam ring that got busted in the UK. Ten people were arrested after police raids across Kent, Essex, and London - these guys were literally impersonating cops and crypto company reps to trick people into handing over their wallet seed phrases. One victim lost £300,000. Once they had the seed phrases, they just drained everything.
The investigation was led by ERSOU and they hit six locations simultaneously at 6am on April 29. All ten suspects showed up at Margate Magistrates' Court the next day and got charged with conspiracy to defraud. Three of them are in custody, the rest got bail for their next hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on May 28.
What's wild is how many of these crypto scams have been happening in England lately. Earlier this year, three teenagers dressed as Amazon delivery drivers to steal £3.1 million in crypto. Before that, masked attackers forced someone in Oxford to transfer like $1.5 million while robbing them of a watch too.
The police warning is pretty straightforward - they'll never ask about your crypto holdings or seed phrases. Don't click random links in emails and never enter your seed phrase anywhere except directly on your hardware wallet. If someone calls claiming to be law enforcement, hang up and call 101 to verify. This crypto scam ring case shows how seriously UK prosecutors are taking organized fraud now.
