(MENAFN) Türkiye’s industrial production recorded a 1.1% year-on-year decline in March, driven by softer performance in the manufacturing and mining sectors, according to official figures released on Friday.

The industrial production index also registered a monthly drop of 0.8%, based on data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).

Breaking down the subsectors, mining and quarrying experienced the most pronounced annual decrease, shrinking by 5.6% compared to the same month last year. Meanwhile, the manufacturing index— the largest component of the overall industrial production measure—fell by 1.3% year-on-year.

In contrast, the electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply index moved upward, rising 5.8% annually and partially offsetting the broader downturn in industrial activity.

On a month-to-month basis, mining and quarrying output declined by 1.6% in March, while manufacturing output eased by 1.1% compared with February. However, the electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply index increased by 3.9% over the same period.
